Join me for a walking tour through Besalú, one of the most beautiful medieval towns in Catalonia.
Its cobbled streets, stone arches, and charming squares will transport you centuries back in time.
This picturesque town sits on the banks of the Fluvià River, crossed by a striking medieval bridge — one of the most iconic in Catalonia. The bridge was not only the main entrance to the town but
also a key part of its defensive system.
Until the 12th century, Besalú was the capital of a county and the residence of the Counts of Tallaferro. After losing its political importance, it became a quiet rural village — which is exactly
what allowed it to preserve its unique medieval charm.
A walk through the narrow stone streets of the historic center
The atmosphere of a place where every corner tells a story
Legends of the Counts of Besalú and their mysterious past
A taste of Catalan cuisine: handmade sausages, aromatic liqueurs, and traditional sweets
Unique local crafts made by the town’s artisans
In Besalú’s ancient Jewish quarter, you’ll find 13th-century ritual baths (mikvé) — one of the rarest surviving examples of medieval Jewish culture in
Europe.
During the visit, you’ll learn about the lives of the Jewish community in medieval Catalonia, their traditions, and the reasons behind their expulsion.
